About Bushpig Safaris 4X4 Hire
For the discerning traveller, planning a self-drive safari in Southern Africa goes way beyond merely hiring a four-wheel drive vehicle. Key to the enjoyment and ultimate success of your trip is the professionalism and support of the company that you select to equip you for your adventure.
Bushpig Safaris' 4x4 hire fleet is based on late model versions of the legendary Land Rover Defender PUMA (all low mileage vehicles) with the recent addition of TD5 90's and 110's. Synonymous with exploration in Africa, these four-wheel drive vehicles afford our clients the opportunity to explore the Southern African landscape behind the wheel of one of the most iconic four-wheel drive vehicles ever built. Maintained in the best possible condition in our own workshop, our Land Rovers are regularly checked, serviced and upgraded.
Emphasis is placed on ensuring that each vehicle is fitted with a comprehensive range of accessories. Furthermore, the camping equipment that we provide is of the highest order. Not only will you be completely self-sufficient when you venture off the beaten track, but also as comfortable as you can possibly be in the bush with the peace of mind that you should have every piece of equipment that you may need.
In standard form, our fully equipped Land Rover Defender PUMA's and TD5 110's comfortably seat four passengers with accommodation provided in the form of a couple of two-person canvas roof-top tents. Our smaller 4x4 safari equipped vehicles, the TD5 90's, are two seaters equipped with a hard top roof-top tent with a large side awning. The roof-top tents on all vehicles come with bedding (linen) and pillows or the option of sleeping bags.
Vehicle accessories include a long-range fuel tank, a large fitted water tank, fitted bush-bars, vehicle spotlights, a gas bottle with cooking plate, a high-lift jack, a spade, an air-compressor (to enable you to inflate or deflate the tires when you venture into sandy areas) and a rear-mounted lamp for camping.
Inside, each 4x4 is air-conditioned and fitted with a vehicle safe for your valuables. Our Garmin GPS systems are pre-loaded with Southern Africa maps (Tracks4Africa). A pair of binoculars are available for game viewing. For trips to more remote areas, we recommend that you request a satellite phone.
Whilst a few of our TD5's have a smaller 45 litre fridge/freezer unit, most of our 4x4 hire fleet come fitted is supplied with a larger than normal 60 litre National Luna combination fridge/freezer unit, installed in the rear of the Land Rovers. These enable you to safely transport your meat and dairy products. Run off a dual-battery system, they provide the added luxury of allowing you to enjoy an ice-cold drink when you set up camp in the evening!
Just before you collect the vehicle, our experienced team will meticulously prepare your Land Rover in our workshop to accommodate your specific requirements. The range of camping gear available is quite comprehensive, ranging from a folding table and camp chairs to crockery, cutlery, cooking equipment and utensils.
At your request, Bushpig Safaris can pre-purchase and stock your vehicle with food items and consumables of your choice in order that you can commence your African Safari without wasting any time. We will even pick you up at the airport when you land.
Before you head off into the bush, our staff will conduct a vehicle familiarization and driver training session with you. The level of intensity of this training will depend on how experienced you are and the complexity of the route that you have decided upon. The purpose of this training is to ensure that you are completely familiar with the vehicle’s operational requirements, the rigging and folding of the rooftop tents and the location and operation of all of the equipment.
From the time that you reserve your 4x4 hire vehicle and confirm your booking until the day that you depart, the professional team at Bushpig Safaris among whom are certified Namibia and South Africa tourist destination specialists, will be available to advise you on the planning of your route and to provide you with any other assistance that you may require. Once you embark on your Safari, we will be on call around the clock in case you need to contact us for support or backup.
We look forward to greeting you on your arrival in Cape Town and to ensuring that you are properly equipped for the Safari adventure of a lifetime!
